I feel it is vital to inform others of my elderly father's experience with Dr. Randy Gardell. My 86 year old father had a stroke a little over a year ago. While my father was recuperating in the hospital, Dr. Gardell was assigned to his care. My family had questions about our father's condition and how to best help him as he recovered. We noticed Dr. Gardell's disconnected, uninterested manner and his short, hurried answers to our questions, but attributed his behavior to time constraints he must have been under at the time. We depended on Dr. Gardell for his knowledge and guidance to help our father. However, over the past year, his demeanor didn't improved. During my father's check-ups with Dr. Gardell, the doctor's routine was always the same...Hurried, with lack of concern, and he seemed to be irritated if we had questions. We decided to conduct an online search for another neurologist in Waco. There is a very small pool available. As uncomfortable as we were with Dr. Gardell, reluctantly, the choice was made to keep my dad under his care because of his familiarity of my dad's health since his stroke. My parents live at an assisted living facility and one month ago, my dad suddenly began to have unexplained, violent facial spasms one night. He had never experienced these before. The spasms quickly progressed in intensity and intervals. The nurse at the facility made the decision to call an ambulance and have my father rushed to the emergency room. After tests had been performed and nothing obvious was revealing the cause, we were told to have my dad seen by Dr. Gardell as soon as possible. I called Dr. Gardell's office the next morning as soon as it opened and was told my dad couldn't come in because there weren't any available appointments. I explained the seriousness of my dad's condition and that we were willing to sit and wait to be seen in-between appointments. I begged for just five minutes of Dr. Gardell's time so he could see the spasms because they were worsening as time passed. I was then told by this person on Dr. Gardell's office staff that they were not running a clinic and that my dad had an appointment for a check-up in two weeks and he could wait to be seen then. After pleading for my dad to be seen, she stated, in a reluctant manner, that she would talk to Dr. Gardell. She called me back, shortly there after, saying that Dr. Gardell thought my dad should take muscle relaxers and he would be seen in two weeks during his scheduled office visit. The same office staffer called the nurse at my parent's assisted living facility and told her my dad was being prescribed muscle relaxers for the spasms and that she was "sure it was nothing important" going on with my dad. The nurse was appalled and immediately told us what was said. I then immediately called another of my father's doctor's. We were told to bring my dad in right away. Immediately, my dad was sent to have an MRI performed. The MRI revealed my dad had a small tumor on his brain. This physician said to never take my dad back to Dr. Gardell and that he would refer and get us in with another neurologist right away. This new neurologist is the answer to our prayers. My dad is finally getting the care he needs and deserves. It really is with a heavy heart that I should have to write such a negative review about a doctor and someone on their office staff. We depend so heavily upon our doctors for their knowledge and concern for our health. I would like to think that all doctors are concerned with their patient's well being, but that wasn't our experience with Dr. Randy Gardell.

  • Dr. Gardell has helped us with my aunt. I would suggest him to anyone. He also was upfront and honest with us when my uncle was in the hospital. He was near death and he took time to explain the issues. Now the same with my aunt and my questions.
